Iced Tea

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

So, June is National Iced Tea Month.  Sounds just about right. But here in Arizona all Summer should be declared Iced Tea Season starting at the end of March.  I LOVE ICED TEA!  All flavors.  There are so many interesting ways to have it, with or without mint, with flavored or simple syrups, with fruit, with fancy ice cubes and funny straws.  It’s all good.  I don’t think we experiment enough with the ways we have it.  What could possible go wrong, right? WRONG!  You can mess iced tea up just like you could hot tea.  If you do not use the proper steeping times or water temperatures.  If you know what they are you are better prepared for great tea.  Now, some people are so anxious to drink their tea, they don’t let it cool down before drinking.  It is best when you bring the tea to room temperature before you refrigerate it. Doing this will make your tea nice and clear…not cloudy.  It all adds to the experience.  Who says you can’t have that same relaxing feeling drinking iced tea that you have with hot tea?

How about frozen teas or tea smoothies for the summer.  We are getting in matcha to do matcha lattes now.  Matcha is the highest form of Japanese shade grown tea you can get.  We serve it hot with soy or milk or water but we will do them as lattes for the summer.  We are also getting into tea smoothies..so don’t just think hot tea this summer.  Also, have you ever tried and iced Chai. Delicious.  Get with the program and have some iced tea, frozen tea or tea lattes this Summer. See you soon at The Loft!

Not Just Tea and Dessert

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Ok, I know our dessert case is misleading as it is the first thing people see when they come into our restaurant or drive by.  It is truly a beacon of light that calls the most discerning patron to come in and take a look.  For this we are grateful.  We realize they are appealing and appetizing.  We’d just like to remind everyone that we are an Award-Winning, full service restaurant and bar.  We serve breakfast on the weekends (open at 10 am), lunch, and dinner.  Try us out for breakfast and dinner to see what you are missing.

Just posted some photos of foods from our lunch menu under the image gallery area on our website. I am no pro with websites so I need to get my web guy to post these correctly.  We are excited that we are adding new items to our menu all the time.  Our Executive Chef, Don Santos is doing a fantastic job bringing the flava. We got him from the Flemings/Roy Family.  Our kitchen crew is fantastic.  They include Don Santos, Tom LaVoie, and Angel Ortiz as the main players.  Dinner photos coming soon.  Look for coupons in the AZ Republic and the SanTan Sun News.

The ladies of the Red Hat Society have the right idea drinking so much tea… there are plenty of healthy benefits to adding tea to our diets in our tender years. And while C.S. “Chronicle This” Lewis felt that tea should be taken in solitude, we’re much more the tea party type.

Tea lover Jason M heads to Scottsdale’s Mandala Tea Room for their soothing herbal elixirs and teas amidst a serenely modern setting. If you find yourself in Tempe, Tea Infusion gives you plenty to steep into, proclaims Kym C: “They have enough varieties of tea that I could come here 70 more times and never duplicate.” Prissy C swears that Urban Tea Loft in Chandler can compete with any chic Downtown tea shop:  “You can brew it, buy it, sample it or have it loaded! That’s right… you can get Tea-Tinis! Like a martini, but one of the mix-ins will be a flavored tea.” Gives a whole new meaning to ‘teatotaler,’ now doesn’t it?

If you haven’t yet experienced bubble tea, Mark J exclaims, “you are in for a treat/adventure, or a treatventure.” Authentic Lollicup serves “boba” tea and other assorted Asian drinks, as well as a quirky (steamed pork bun, anyone?) assortment of food. Equally bubbly, Helen Y advises “Boba Tea House is a great intro. The black chewy tapioca balls sucked through an extra large straw are oddly addictive.” Her fave is “the green jasmine honey milk tea with boba… take that Starbucks!”

For you homebody types, check out Solo Cafe –  it “feels more like someone’s study than a retail space,” declares Lesley C. Complete with a record and DVD collection, nice lighting, plenty of seating, power outlets, and free Internet, reasonably-priced caffeinated beverages are just the sweetener. And finally, if you’re looking for a for an authentic British tea party, follow Natalie D’s lead to The Phoenician, where “afternoon tea is served daily in the Tea Court and includes finger sandwiches, scones with Devonshire cream and preserves, pastries, a selection of fine teas, and classical music.” Hmm, wonder if they play Darjeeling Clementine?
